W is still haunting me

Don't get me wrong. I'm not an ungrateful person, certainly not an ungrateful daughter. But coming to Phoenix to visit my mother and brother gives me two alternatives if I wish to be mobile. Either I spend money on a rental car, or I borrow my Mom's Buick.

Now... considering what the drivers behind me will see as I tool down the Tempe city streets... does anyone else understand why I am mentally adding up the true costs of car rental?

Oh well, the stereo kicks ass. At this volume I couldn't possibly hear any verbal attacks.

The first night of my visit she started talking badly about Obama and I felt the need to calmly defend my democrat principals. I thought she was going to kick me out of the house... whoops.

Oh no! That's a hard choice indeed. Could you remove the sticker while no one is looking? Cover it up temporarily with a square of paper and some masking tape?

Slap a temporary sticker above it that says, Sure glad I never voted for:

See if you can scratch up one of those "Cheney/Voldemort 2008" stickers and slap it over the current one. They're probably going cheap and your mom might not even notice at first...

All are excellent suggestions. But I managed to make it through with plenty of loud classic rock and roll. (gosh I miss that in Germany!)

I thought you might suggest taking off such an old sticker to your mom...just because it has become obsolete ? I guess she wouldn't buy it either?

The old saying comes to mine, "Can't pick your family!"

I have to admit, your post did remind me of how sheltered I am here in Berlin. I forgot how much I would have been berated had I been living in the US during this time.

I like being sheltered though... :)

I hope you've gotten back safe, or will get back safe, since this post.

That kind of stuff is exactly why I talk racing and work with my mom, say "I don't think we want to have this discussion" a *lot* when politics comes up, and insist on hotels and car rentals. My paternal grandfather taught me that time and sanity are currencies, too, not just money. Therefore I am willing to spend money (when I actually *can*) to save time and sanity.
