Where were you?

Eight years later ... and still I cry.
On this day it doesn't matter to me WHO did it, WHY or HOW...
What matters to me are the senseless deaths of that day,
and the deaths of so many innocents since that day.

Been reading:

9/11 as a Lesson, Not a Memory - Where were you when the world stood still? The first set of kids who must be taught about 9/11 are in our schools. What do you teach them? How can we explain to them the pain we felt?

I can't believe it's been eight years already. I was at a conference in Providence doing some stupid exercise about all the steps where something could go wrong while making a cup of coffee. Someone came in and told us and since I was at a table full of hospital people, the first thing they did was estimate the number of dead.

I just wrote about this, but I was in Orlando at the time, and L'Ailee (my girlfriend then, not my wife) was scheduled to work at a store in the WTC. But she was scheduled for the afternoon, thank the Gods. I couldn't reach her. She was busily trying to contact everyone she knew in NYC to make sure they were all okay. She finally called me back at midnight, and I yelled at her for making me worry! I'd gotten a taste of what it was like to be without her, not even a phone call away, and I hated it!

The next day, she was in a Russian friend's apartment, sitting on the floor, calling his mother to tell her that her son was dead.

I flew up there as soon as the travel restrictions were lifted, even though I couldn't exactly afford it. Couldn't do anything else.
