Music Monday - Eurovision 2010 - Germany

Prepare for an "Ohrwurm".
I've warned you.

We've been hearing a catchy little tune on the radio these past weeks. Driving with Sweet No yesterday this cute little ditty came on and suddenly it got cranked up a bit to better hearing level. No said that she liked the tune and wanted to hear the words. I told her it was about unconditional love, then the next phrase out of the singer's mouth, "...I even painted my toenails for you..." Yup, unconditional love.

Today I heard it again on morning radio and decided to research it a bit. Turns out it is the German entry in the Eurovision Song Contest! LOVE IT!
Goofball... I think Germany has a winner here.

Cutesy and a mite bit goofy. The singer is Lena Meyer-Landrut, better known as just "Lena". 19 years old and her singles are going platinum in Germany. Not bad.

The song is "Satellite" by Lena Meyer Landrut
See it bigger.
29 May, 2010 She's a winner. OK OK, so maybe she doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell seeing as how she's competing for Germany and we just don't have the political backing to win. But it is fun to think about it!

Satellite by Lena
I went everywhere for you
I even did my hair for you
I bought new underwear, they’re blue
And I wore ‘em just the other day

Love, you know I’ll fight for you
I left on the porch light for you
Whether you are sweet or cruel
I’m gonna love you either way

Love, oh, love, I gotta tell you how I feel about you
‘Cause I, oh, I can’t go a minute without your love
Like a satellite, I’m in an orbit all the way around you
And I would fall out into the night
Can’t go a minute without your love

Love, I got it bad for you
I saved the best I have for you
You sometimes make me sad and blue
Wouldn’t have it any other way

Love, my aim is straight and true
Cupid’s arrow is just for you
I even painted my toe nails for you
I did it just the other day

Love, oh, love, I gotta tell you how I feel about you
‘Cause I, oh, I can’t go a minute without your love
Like a satellite I’m in an orbit all the way around you
And I would fall out into the night
Can’t go a minute without your love
Oh, love, I gotta tell you how I feel about you
‘Cause I, oh, I can’t go a minute without your love

Where you go, I’ll follow
You set the pace, we’ll take it fast and slow
I’ll follow in your way,
You got me, you got me
A force more powerful than gravity
It’s physics, there’s no escape

Love, my aim is straight and true
Cupid’s arrow is just for you
I even painted my toe nails for you
I did it just the other day

Love, oh, love, I gotta tell you how I feel about you
‘Cause I, oh, I can’t go a minute without your love
Like a satellite I’m in orbit all the way around you
And I would fall out into the night
Can’t go a minute without your
Love, oh, love, I gotta tell you how I feel about you
‘Cause I, oh, I can’t go a minute without your love
Love, love, love, love, love

I even did my hair for you, my honeys.

Zurika will be having her usual Eurovision party, and if he scores an invite, headbang will be cracking his usual drunk, lame jokes about how the whole thing has gone downhill since ABBA stopped being Swedish.

Unfortunately the song really doesn't click for me -- but I hope it does well.

What sweet lyrics! I haven't heard the song so far (I'm almost ashamed to admit that I listen to British Forces radio most of the time in the car, and they're unlikely to play this one!) I'll check out the You Tube version above when I'm back from work, though.

It would be nice if someone like Germany won for a change, though I agree that it's unlikely irrespective of the quality of the song.

That song is exponentially better than any of the German entries in the last 6 years. Yes, that includes Texas Lightning. It's catchy and it has sweet lyrics.

However, there are still a few issues:

-the Mockney accent. Can we just agree that only the Brits are allowed to engage in this?

-I like Kate Nash, too. But Eurovision isn't an impersonator competition.

-She's a very cute, totally appropriate looking 19-year-old. Unfortunately, I think she might disappear in all of the (typically Eastern European) skank glitter that has become a hallmark of Eurovision.

I wish her the best, but I don't think she has a snowball's chance.

I think she's a lovely girl, but the overdone English accent she copied form her teacher is very unfortunate and really reduces her chances of placing well in the contest. She's from Hannover so you can imagine how crazy things are around here when she makes an appearance.

hahaha, how funny that you named me. Do you consider me an expert on the subject? :p. Too funny

Well, I totally love this song. It is catchy and sticks and is happy. Her accent is horrible but it doesn't bother me very much.
She does seem to be a bit of a mixture of Lily Allen (the pulsing rhythm & catchy ness), Amy Mc Donald and Kate Nash who was already mentioned.

I think it'll score well. Winners are hard to predict, but I hope it scores well though.

Belgium will bring a nice but modest song accompanied on guitar...with the idea of "less is more" I suppose. It's not bad, but will probably be invisible.

She's going to have to flashy it up bigtime if she wants to get noticed at Eurovision.

@Headbang - looking forward to it.
